Gas Stoves Labeling Bill Vetoed in California

Governor Newsom recently vetoed Assembly Bill 2513, which would have mandated warning labels on all gas stoves sold in California, alerting consumers to potential health risks from gas emissions. Critics, including the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) and the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), argued the bill was an unnecessary attempt to push consumers toward electric alternatives. Despite these concerns, gas stoves remain highly popular, with 70% of California households using them.

Colin Sueyres, President of the Western Propane Gas Association, praised the veto, stating that such state mandates often lead to consumer pushback against government overreach without significantly benefiting the environment. He expressed relief that the governor avoided further political complications by rejecting the bill. Similar gas stove labeling proposals have surfaced in Illinois and New York.
